TEXAS GOLF TRIPS
LET’S GO PLAY GOLF IN TEXAS
With a mild climate and more than 800 courses strewn across rugged desert mountains, lush piney woods, hill country elevation changes, and seaside links, Texas is a giant playground for golfers. Travelers can find premium public, private and resort courses across the state, making Texas a year-round golf destination rivaling any locale in the country. The links choices state-wide are truly endless, from the Gulf Coast to the Big Bend.
Golfers of all skill levels are challenged and awed by Texas’ enormous selection of golf facilities, from world-famous courses to inexpensive golfing on some of the nation’s prettiest links. Called home by many legends of the game – including Ben Crenshaw, Ben Hogan, Nancy Lopez, Byron Nelson, Lee Trevino and Babe Zaharias – Texas beckons pros and amateurs alike from all over the world.
AUSTIN
Texas is a state with a rich golf history, and its capital city of Austin is no exception. Located in the heart of the Texas Triangle and on the cusp of the Texas Hill Country, golfers of all walks of life (and wallet
size) will find a suitable course. Combining diverse topography, affordable courses and big name designers like Tom Fazio and Robert Trent Jones, Austin is the perfect setting for year-round golfers. And thanks to GOLF Magazine, Austin can add, “The Best Golf City in America” to its list of titles.
Golfers should start at Omni Barton Creek, a sprawling private club that doubles as a luxury golf resort, home to two Tom Fazio designs, plus a Crenshaw and Arnold Palmer course, too. Just east of town, Wolfdancer Golf Club at Hyatt Lost Pines shows off 300-plus acres of prime, central Texas countryside along the Lower Colorado River.
SAN ANTONIO
The most popular tourist city in the Lone Star State also has become one of Texas’ best golf destinations. With the addition of the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort and the TPC San Antonio, the Alamo City offers a wide range of golf options.
As the host of both PGA Tour and Champions Tour events, the JW Marriott and TPC offers 36 holes of championship golf. It’s hardly the only resort option, though, with the Westin La Cantera (former home of the Valero Texas Open), Hyatt Hill Country Resort and Tapatio Springs just outside of town in Boerne.
